ADAPTATION OF CROP MIXES ADAPTED TO CROPS AND SOIL TYPES FOR USE IN ECOLOGICAL SEEDLINGS

Summary

Our target is to optimize the forcrops on the three largest fields in Hungary with the formed cropmix. Winter wheat, maize, and sunflower are more than half of all arable land in Hungary, so there would be a significant need for optimal crop production of these crops. After the completion of the project, the selection of seeds for ecological seeding is more purposeful and professional. In order to make smarter the using of the green-maker cropmix we have to develop the cropmix which is the best for the aptitudes of farmers. We had focused on the three largest fields in Hungary when planned the mix of the crops: autumn wheat, sweet corn, sunflower. The consortium was established with the target to make the best precorn for these three arable crops. To identify the mix of the species which have the best parameters regarding the post-sowings, many observations are necessary. Justifiable the observation of the soil life, the organic material of the soil, capability of the nutrient providing and the therm, air, water supply capability. The mentioned parameters can be analyzed with the soil samples. Based on the data obtained from soil samples it can be determined to what extent different mixtures contribute to maintaining and improving the fertility of soils.

Milestones

  • 2017

    Submission

Submission of an application to the adjudicating authority.
    2019

    Sampling

The application is evaluated positively. The investment period begins, the necessary seeds and other inputs are purchased. Purchase of machinery needed during the project. Data collection of the areas covered by the experiment. Soil sampling. The 20 species to be sown in the experiment are determined.
    2020

    Monitoring

In the first year of the experiment, varietal narrowing takes place. Using different experimental plots, the 20 species are tested by sowing at two different times Continuous monitoring takes place. Plant protection parameters are also tested to ensure the practical usefulness of mixtures. The data of the first year are systematized, which are presented to the producers.
    2021

    Development

Based on the experience gained in the first year, several seed mixtures are developed, which are already examined specifically for different cultures. Sowing takes place at two times per plot on fields with winter wheat, sunflower and maize main crops. Continuous monitoring takes place.
    2023

    Data Collection

Main crop-specific experiments using different seed mixtures continue. Certain cover crop plots are not turned into green manure. On these, the internal retention values important for feeding are evaluated. The amount of data collected during the three pilot years and practical experience will also be evaluated. Open professional field visit. A study is conducted on the experiment.
    2023

    Publication

Professional publications about the project are prepared. Patents are filed. The project is closed.
